Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic panels (PV panels), convert sunlight into energy. This energy is then converted into electricity using an inverter. The electricity either powers your home energy needs or can be fed back into the grid.

The costs of solar energy
There is an initial outlay to install solar energy (either electricity or hot water). However, you may find these establishment costs are covered by the savings you make over time in energy costs.
If you pay for the solar system upfront, you can start saving immediately. If you don’t have the finances to pay upfront, AGL offers flexible finance to make it easier to enjoy solar.
And, depending on where you live, if you feed excess electricity back into the grid you could be entitled to a credit.
There are also government incentives available for installing renewable energy like solar, including the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Yes. With AGL’s Virtual Power Plant, you own the battery that is installed in your household - unlike some other virtual power plant projects where participants access the technology via a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and someone else owns the system.
Any energy discharged from the battery will be used by the home first, and any additional energy discharged that can’t be used by the home at the time will be exported to the grid.
You will receive your standard Retail Feed-in Tariff (RFiT) when solar energy stored in the battery is exported to the grid.
The LG Chem RESU10H can only be installed in a location that is fully protected from direct sunlight. The preferred location is in a garage or car port. A qualified electrician will conduct an AGL site inspection to assess suitable battery installation locations and assess your site to determine where your LG Chem RESU battery can be safely wall mounted.
The AGL Virtual Power Plant program includes LG Chem RESU10H, with a usable capacity of 9.3 kWh.^ Your LG Chem battery can be paired with either a SolarEdge StorEdge inverter or a Solar Edge HD-Wave inverter.
The LG Chem battery + SolarEdge StorEdge inverter bundle can be configured to provide backup power at an additional cost. The LG Chem + SolarEdge HD-Wave bundle is our most affordable battery offer but is not configured to provide backup power.

You can also store renewable energy for use when it’s needed, which could help you lower your electricity bills, while doing your bit for the community by allowing your connected battery to offer grid support services when needed.
Tesla Powerwall 2 is a next generation, rechargeable, 13.5kWh, advanced lithium-ion battery. It has a fully integrated inverter that enables the storage of energy from your solar system (that would normally be exported to the grid) to be used at times when you and the grid need it, like at night or in the event of a grid power outage. The Powerwall 2 also offers the option of backup power to parts of the home.
LG Chem RESU batteries use lithium-ion battery technology and LG Chem’s Lamination & Stacking technology, which LG Chem states helps to maintain a superior battery lifespan even with frequent charging and discharging.
The nameplate capacity of a battery refers to its total storage capacity, not all of which is able to be used for charging and discharging functions. The usable capacity is the energy storage capacity that you can draw from day-to-day to help power your home.

The availability of backup power during a power outage is dependent on having excess power stored in your battery to use at the time of any power outage.
