How to read Digital Hot Water Gas meter reading

Semiconductor

Hi AGL team

I have got new Digital Hot Water Gas meter installed in my apartment. It is Itron make UltraMAXX model. Reading display has 5 digits before decimal and 3 digits after decimal with Meter cube (m^3) as unit of measurement. Request you to please share the guidelines to read the water usage with this meter so that I can validate my consumption.

Hi Jayden,

Thanks for your replay. I had read this link earlier but I did not find it specific to my questions -

1. In Gas Meters section of the link, we have a section with "Instructions for reading your Gas Digital meter" header - Does it mean that the same instructions to be followed to read Digital "Hot Water" meter?

2. If answer of 1) is yes, - In the given example, 24.232 on the meter is converted into the reading of 24232. But example does not mention the unit of measurement. Does it mean that consumer has consumed 24232 liters of hot water from starting till date or does it mean that consumption till date is 24232 X 10 = 242320 liters? Units of measurement on this meter says Kiloliter (KL) so ideally it should not be multiplied by 10 but want to confirm as I have seen multiple discussions on this forum around the confusion with the multiplication factor.

3. Units of measurement in my meter is Meter cube ( which is equivalent of Kiloliters). If reading difference between two timelines is 1.111 then I would have consumed 1111 liters of water. Do I need to inform AGL to ensure that my bill does not include a multiplication factor in case readings are in numbers till 3rd digit after decimal (like given in the example)? or It will automatically be taken care of ?

Thanks

Kapil

Hi kapild,

Thank you for your prompt reply! I must apologise here, as I have overlooked the fact that you were specifically referencing a hot water meter, and not a gas meter.

So that the hot water meters in some apartment complexes do not need to be physically read, digital remote reading systems are installed. These systems rely on a small turbine inside the meter to spin as water passes through which creates a small electric pulse each time 10 litres (or a decilitre) of water pass through the meter. As a result, you should expect to see a 'multiplier' of 10 to appear on your gas bill which converts your hot water meter reading from 'decilitres' to 'litres'.

Kind regards,

Jayden

Hi Jayden,

thanks for your reply.

Digital meter was installed in my apartment on 25th of May (65 days back) and its current reading is 3.865. With this calculations, it seems we have used approx. 40,000 liters of hot water in 50 days as we were on vacation for 15 days in between. 800 liters per day consumption seems approximately 10X higher than our normal daily usage of a family of 2. I found a post where meter was recording in Kiloliters and AGL was miscalculating the consumption by 10X. I request you to please validate my meter as well with the same method.

https://community.agl.com.au/t5/Meters-and-Connections/Gas-hot-water-meter-seems-running-fast/m-p/58...

In case, your calculation is correct, then my meter is running almost 10 times faster than the consumption. Request you to please help me to raise the complain for meter rectification.

regards

Kapil

Hi kapild,

If you meter is recording 1 unit for every 10 litres consumed, then a meter reading of 3.865 would suggest that you've consumed closer to 38.65 litres of water. We're unable to address concerns specific to your account through the Community I'm sorry to say, so we encourage you to get in touch if you'd like your account looked at.

Hi Kapil,

I am running same problem exactly, new digital hot water meter been installed and its showing very high usage. What was the fix for your problem? I had a look other forum link which you shared and she said she fixed it and their new bill I believe is not getting multiplied by 10.

Could you please confirm is the same solution offered to you as well?

Looking forward to see your reply.

Regards

Manish

I mailed to 'customerreads@agl.com.au' with the photoshot of meter reading and a request to clarify the consumption read. I did not receive any reply but AGL had generated the bill on the basis of the photo of the meter reading. Based on the meter read in the bill, my understanding is that for digital water meters with consumption in Meter cube, AGL records the meter read till second place after decimal and then multiple it by 10 to calculate the actual water consumption.

My meter read was 4.901 M^3 and meter reading in my bill was 490. It was further multiplied by 10 to calculate the consumption as 4900 ( then further multiplied by heating factor etc.etc.).
