shorking bill

Switched-on

I had received an unusual amount bill $700+, my bill normally between $90-$130. I had an online chat with customer service on AGL website, she told me I have to pay for it, and next time (April) some meter reader come in, if the bill is wrong, I will have a credit. Or I can raise a request, which will cost me $19 something. I don't understand why I have to pay $700 (it's nearly one & half years gas bill amount) in advance or $19 for something not even my fault.

I'm live in on my own in a two bedrooms apt without gas heater, and I'm not cook much. Really cannot understand why I received a such high bill.

Hi @jane. Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community!

Sounds like a frustrating experience, there are a couple of reasons for the high unexpected billing.

  1. Previous bills have been based on under estimated reads and AGL have now received an actual read, which has increased the cost
  2. An estimated read has been provided to AGL which is out of line with your historical consumption

If you have access to your gas meter (which might be located under your kitchen sink or in a meter room) you can check the read yourself and provide a customer own read to AGL. As you live in an apartment, you might be able to check with the building manager or real estate where the gas meters are located.

Otherwise if you don't have access, AGL can suggest and raise a check read order. Which basically means that we send a request to your local gas distribution company and they arrange for the meter to be re-read.

To better investigate your individual account, we will need you to send a private message with your account details. Once you send these details, we can have a better look into your issue.

Thanks!
