Previous owner did not disconnect electricity

Switched-on

The previous owner did not disconnect there electricity. Since then they have received a bill and have forwarded it on to my rental tenants to pay. There is now no way of knowing who has used this electricity in this period.

Should the previous owner have disconnected and had a final meter reading to terminate there account? If they have not, who is accountable to pay the bill?

Is this question covered in the terms and conditions and if so where?

Thanks

Hi @Mitch, thanks for posting. To answer your question, if the previous tenant was responsible for the connection of their electricity account, they are also responsible for the disconnection. You can find our General Terms for Market Retail Contracts, including information about disconnections, on our website.

If you would like to give us a call on 131 245, we can arrange a disconnection of the service and a final bill for the account holders. You may wish to discuss this with your current tenants so they can arrange their own connection, if they have not yet already, to avoid an extended period without power.
