I purchased a warehouse for an investment. Since I had no need for power I did not get it supplied. The old owner failed to disconnect and realised 6 months later that he was still paying the bills. I did use the power on a few occasions.
He now wants me to pay usage, although deducting the supply charge.
Just as you would have been responsible for contacting a Retailer when assuming ownership of the warehouse, it would also have been their responsibility to contact the Retailer to let them know that he would be moving out. Understanding that you have been the correct owner of the property for so long I would say that some obligations would come into play. However, you can contact the Energy and Water Ombudsman at 1800 246 545 to confirm.
