How do you calculate the number of megajoules or units on my gas bill?

Switched-on

Hi there. I have been quite concerned about my high gas bill and am now taking steps to reduce it. I want to keep tabs on the usage, know how to calculate so I can have an estimated figure in mind come next billing period

Hey David2011,

Thank you for your enquiry!

The formula used to calculate your gas consumption in mega joules can vary slightly depending on the type of gas meter you have at your property. However, the most common formula is as follows:

(End read - Start read) x Heating value x Pressure factor = Usage (MJ)

Kind regards,

Jayden
