Bills for my rental property

Switched-on

I have just rented out my property to a tenant. Should I change the name of my bills to my tenant's name? or keep the bills in my name and I pass the bills to my tenant everytime I receive them from AGL? Thanks for help.

Hi Jenny, thanks for your question! Laws and regulations differ depending on what state you live in, but generally the tenant is responsible for paying for electricity and gas usage. It is important to have an agreement in place with the tenant so that there is a clear understanding as to who is responsible for what, but it is fairly commonplace for the accounts to be in the tenant's names. I would encourage you to have a discussion with your tenant and see what works best for your situation! Smiley Very Happy
